Sigiriya has become one of the main tourist destination in Sri Lanka and has listed as World Heritage Site. Sigiriya is an ancient rock fortress with historical and archaeological significance that is dominated by a massive column of rock nearly 200 metres (660 ft) high. Sigiriya is the Alakamandava (the City of the Gods) that was built up before 50 centuries ago by King Kuwera who was the father of Ravana. Sigiriya is world famous for its frescoes. Golden Temple of Dambulla is a World Heritage Site in Sri Lanka. Dambulla is the largest and best-preserved cave temple complex in Sri Lanka. The rock towers 160 m over the surrounding plains.There are more than 80 documented caves in the surrounding area. Major attractions are spread over five caves, which contain statues and paintings. These paintings and statues are related to Gautama Buddha and his life. There are a total of 153 Buddha statues.
Ibbankatuwa is a burial site with human skeletons about 2700 years old in this area. The site is believed to be belongs to the megalithic prehistoric and protohistoric periods of Sri Lanka.
Arankele Forest Monastery is a haven of peace and quietude. Today it is a celebrated archaeological site containing the ruins of the ancient forest monastery. This Bhikkhu monastery which is in a natural habitat has mountain slopes and plataues dotted with hundreds of buildings such as padhanagharas, Jantagharas (hot water bathing houses), Bodhigharas (parapet encrcling Bo trees), ponds, promenades, caves etc.
